Parupalli Kashyap stormed into the quarterfinals of the men's singles while the reigning national champion Sayali Gokhale saw her campaign fell apart in the women's competition as the Indian shuttlers endured a mixed day in the Syed Modi International India Open GP here on Thursday.

Kashyap defeated Thailand’s Parinyawat Thongnuam 21-16, 21-17 in the $120,000 Gold Championship at the BBD UP Academy.

Rising shuttler P V Sindhu hardly met any resistance from the unseeded Victoria Na as she trounced the Australian 21-9, 21-9 in a contest which barely lasted 18 minutes.
Sayali lost 21-15, 21-11 to the fifth seed Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia  while R M V Guru Sai Dutt caused quite a flutter in the men’s singles when he scalped Malaysia’s Mohammad Arif Abdul Latif, the seventh seed. The 22-year-old Indian wrapped up the contest with a 21-10, 21-16 win.

Men’s third seed, Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto was stretched to the decider against the home favourite, B Sai Praneeth, seeded 13 places behind his rival.
Sai Praneeth clinched the first game 21-12 but the world No.26 rallied back  to win the next two 21-12, 21-16 to move into the last eight.

In the mixed doubles, the Indonesian pair of Fran Kurianwan and Shendy Puspa Irawati beat the Indian duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Siki Reddy 21-9, 21-14.
