Trials under way after initial hiccups

The Bangalore-leg of the FIFA flag bearers ceremony, which was held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, was not much of an ‘inconvenience’ to the selection trials for the Inter-State athletics championships, according to Karnataka Athletic Association Secretary, Chandrasekhar Rai.

“They (the organisers) had promised us that they would wind up by 1.00 pm and they have. Only the throws will be affected because the field needs to be cleared so we will conduct the throwing events (hammer, discus) on Sunday morning.”

The trials will wind up on Sunday. There are a total of 80 athletes taking part in the trials. Long jumpers Mayookha Johny and MA Prajusha, who are part of the national camp, flexed their muscles during the trials for a bit of competitive exposure.
