Agri varsity students plan 'Chalo Bengaluru' on July 2

The students of Universities of Agricultural Science across the state have planned ‘Bengaluru Chalo’ July 2, protesting the government’s move to privatise these varsities.

The students of agriculture, horticulture universities and forest college from Bengaluru, Dharwad, Raichur, Shivamogga, Bagalkot and Bidar will converge in Bengaluru on July 2 and take out a rally from Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station to Freedom Park. Later, agricultural experts will address a convention of the students. The students have been staging protest across the state for the past 18 days and have even boycotted their semester examination.

“We are expecting more than 1,000 students for the Monday’s. We will not call off our protest unless the government drops the privatisation move and amends the Karnataka Agricultural Universities Act,” Ramesh, a student leader told DH. On Friday, students performed “Urulu seve” (rolling on the ground) on GKVK campus in Bengaluru, as part of their protest.
