Ambareesh to announce his next move in two days: HDK

Hinting that senior Congress leader and actor M H Ambareesh might quit the Congress party, JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that the actor would publicly announce his decision in a couple of days.

Ambareesh, the Mandya MLA, rejected the Congress party ticket on the last day of filing nomination.

The actor, who recently announced retirement from electoral politics, had met Kumaraswamy at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru on Saturday night.

Addressing a rally at Goruru on Sunday Kumaraswamy said: “Ambareesh wants the JD(S) to come to power. He has analysed the political situation across the state and will publicly announce his decision in a couple of days.”

“Siddaramaiah has been talking very lightly of Ambareesh. If Ambareesh had not extended cooperation to Siddaramaiah during the Chamundeshwari by-election in 2006, the latter would have lost by a huge margin of 10,000 votes.

Ambareesh was upset when Siddaramaiah unceremoniously dropped him from the cabinet,” he added.

The former chief minister expressed anger over film actors participating in election campaigns in favour of the Congress and the BJP candidates.

“I have no objection over film actors involving in canvassing. But actors have to identify themselves with a particular party and work for its victory.

“Instead, they seek votes favouring candidates of different parties at different constituencies. They are making this a business. Hence, voters should be not be carried away by their presence,” he advised.
