Anganwadi workers stage protests across Karnataka

The Anganwadi workers staged protests in different parts of the state on Tuesday seeking the government to fulfil their various demands.

They took out processions and submitted memoranda to deputy commissioners.

In Tumakuru, the Anganwadi Workers' Association president G Kamala and general secretary G Bhanu led the protest who led the protest charged that the Anganwadi workers were forced to work for over six hours under Integrated Child Development Services scheme without much facilities. The government was using service of the Anganwadi workers for election duties, conducting surveys, Stree Shakthi, Bhagyalakshmi and demolition works of toilets. 

In Bagalkot, Hanumakka Dasar led the protest and charged that the government acted tough if the workers committed minor mistakes. The concerned department should immediately convene a meeting their association and fulfil their 20 demands.

In Bidar, they took out a procession from Ganesh Maidan seeking the government to frame service rules for Anganwadi workers.

The Central government should withdraw its decision of cutting the grants, they demanded.

A protest was staged in front of DC's office in Raichur. The protesters urged the state government to deposit funds to procure materials required for Maturu Poorna scheme.

In Ramanagar, they staged a protest in front of ZP office and urged the State government to upgrade existing Anganwadi centres to pre-schools and termed recent decision taken by the Central government as detrimental to the Integrated Child Development Services programme itself.

They condemned the State government for its decision to start LKG and UKG classes in government schools.

They condemned the government for starting Anganwadi centres without proper amenities.
