Belgaum: Valuables worth Rs 50 lakh burgled

In both the incidents, the burglars broke into the houses breaking open the doors, when the owners were not in town.

The miscreants made away with 3,500 US dollars, 2,900 Saudi riyals, Rs 28,000, four necklace sets, 28 rings, five gold chains and two diamond-coated necklaces from the house belonging to Ujaw Aralikatti. The family left for Saudi Arabia on September 15.

In another house, situated about 20 feet away, they decamped with 41 kgs silver, 99 grams gold ornaments and Rs 40,000 cash kept in the cupboard. Owner of the house, Namdev Badiger and his family had been to Munavalli in Saundatti taluk on Sunday to attend Dasara festival.

The burglars had struck at Shantaram Lenge Jewellers on the busy Khade Bazaar Road and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs one crore.
