The state government will make suitable changes to the existing sand mining policy to ensure that quality sand is available to people at affordable rates, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Saturday.
Kumaraswamy, who held a review meeting of the Mines and Geology department, told officials not to give any scope for illegalities while issuing permits for sand mining and quarrying. Steps have to be taken to curb the sand mafia, he stated.
He said a team of experts was studying laws on sand mining in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra and will be submitting its report soon.
