Last Updated 12 September 2014, 19:53 IST

The State BJP Raitha Morcha on Friday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was not even aware of the extent of damage caused by floods in 16 districts and drought in eight districts.

Addressing a press conference here, Morcha president Araga Jnanendra said that while the damage due to floods was not less than Rs 2,000 crore, the chief minister had projected it at Rs 542 crore.

As many as 10,000 houses have been damaged and crops in lakhs of acres have been washed away, he pointed out.

The BJP’s three teams, which toured the 16 districts where floods have created havoc, have assessed the damage. In addition, the district party presidents have been asked to submit their assessment reports.

Financial assistance

A memorandum seeking financial help to offer relief to the affected would be submitted to the Centre, he said.

Jnanendra said that when B S Yeddyurappa was the chief minister, he had celebrated Deepavali with the people in flood-hit areas to show his solidarity.

But the present chief minister is least bothered about the miseries faced by the people. Hence, the BJP would seek the assistance of the Centre, he added.DH News Service
