Death toll in Karwar boat tragedy goes up to 16

The death toll in the boat tragedy near Kurmagad in Karwar went up to 16 with the rescue team retrieving the body of a boy on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep (10), a resident of Hosuru village in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district.

The body was found floating on the sea around 90 km from the place where the boat capsized on January 21. A total of nine people of the same family have perished in the tragedy.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Suresh Itnal said that rescue operation had been stopped as the bodies of all the deceased have been retrieved.
