Suresh Badia Poojari, a 30-year-old BJP worker, attempted suicide late on Monday night at Unchalli in Sirsi taluk.

His brother Sudhakar Poojari told media that upset over the BJP not coming to power and BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa not becoming the chief minister, he is said to have consumed pesticides. Suresh was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he is said to be recovering. Suresh had actively involved himself in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

BJP candidate from the Yellapur constituency V S Patil and MLA Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri visited Suresh and inquired about his health.

Meanwhile, Suresh told the police that he was an alcoholic and on Monday evening, upset over being reprimanded by his sister and brother-in-law, he consumed pesticides under the influence of alcohol and tried to end his life. The Basavasi police have booked a case.
