Of late, pig menace was rampant in the town. Pigs are found in almost every area and locality. Not just the residential areas, the pig herd are spotted even in the most populated areas like the Mahatma Gandhi Road, the market area, etc.

It has become all the more common for the two-wheeler riders to skid and fall, due to the sudden invasion of pigs on the main roads. Accidents from minor to major have been taking place on and off in the town.

Health concerns

Their presence in the residential areas have raised health concerns. The pigs are responsible for the spread of several contagious diseases. Their presence is proving to be a threat on the health of the citizens.

Adding to the woes, the meat stalls are also established in the residential areas and the pigs are kept locked in the barricades beside these stalls, the citizens expressed.

In the last mango season, the Town Municipal Council had taken stringent measures to contain the pig menace. As a result, all the pigs were driven out of the town. And once the season was over, the pig rearers have once again brought the pigs back into the town. The citizens are all the more apprehensive with this development. The TMC should take permanent and effective measures to tackle this problem, in the interest of general public, the citizens have urged.
