Deve Gowda files nomination in Hassan

Former prime minister and JD(S) party supremo H D Deve Gowda filed his nomination papers from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, here, on Tuesday.

Before filing his papers, Gowda and his family members performed puja for more than three hours at various temples at Holenarasipur.

Gowda, along with wife Channamma, son H D Revanna and other supporters visited Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Anjaneya and Ganesha temples in Holenarasipur and offered prayers. 

Later, he arrived at Haradanahalli, his native village, and performed pujas at a renovated temple. Then all left for Ranganathaswamy Betta and offered prayers. The family members placed the nomination papers before the deity and sought blessings. From there, they reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office and filed nominations at 1.15 pm.

Kadur MLA Y S V Datta, Holenarasipur MLA H D Revanna, Channamma Deve Gowda and others accompanied him. Grandson Prajwal Revanna joined them at the last moment. JD(S) MLAs, former MLAs and JD(S) leaders were present.

Thousands of supporters

Though Deve Gowda did not take out a rally before filing his nomination papers, thousands of party workers gathered in front of the DC’s office on B M Road and shouted slogans in favour of Gowda. 

They even burst crackers in support of their leader. Though Prohibitory Orders were in place, around the DC’s office, hundreds of workers hoodwinked the police and entered the premises. Later, Deve Gowda participated in a party workers’ convention.
