Price rise: CPM, CPI activists court arrest

Later addressing the gathering, CPI(M) District Secretary B Madhava said that price rise has been adversely affecting the common man. Demanding that Food Security Act must be implemented, he said that BPL families must be provided 35 kgs rice at Rs 2.
He said that though the scheme of providing 35 kg rice at Rs 2 exists under Anthyodaya scheme, the Central government has decided to provide 25 kg rice at Rs 3 dropping the existing scheme.

He said that Government is saying that only 5 to 6 crore people will be eligible to get the benefit of the scheme despite various Committees submitting a report saying that there are 28 crore BPL families. He cited that Arjun Sengupta Report stated that over 77 per cent of the people in India earn daily income of Rs 22 or even less.

“The total cost of providing 35 kg rice at Rs 2 sums up to Rs 1 lakh crore, which is not a big amount at all to the Government which has waived off a total tax of Rs 4 lakh crore for capitalists,” he said and added that along with solving various problems persisting in MGNREGS, the Government must implement Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme too.
Taking on the Maoist for their attack on CRPF personnel, Madhava said that Maoists have no principles or ethics. “Their only principle is destruction principle,” he said and added that in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress has been attacking Left leaders by joining hands with the Maoists.

“Home Minister is acting helpless by giving diverse statement in different places. Prime Minister too does not know who is responsible and what is happening in West Bengal and Chattisgarh. If Congress has any concern, then it should remove the Trinamool Congress leader from the cabinet,” he demanded. CPI District Secretary Sanjeeva was present.
