Protests galore in Mysore region

People of Maddur and villages in the taluk were united in protests against the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu since Saturday night.

At Gejjalagere, farmers blocked the road by placing boulders and bringing their cattle. The protestors, including a centenarian — Chennamma — was taken into custody by police.

Enraged by this, the villagers intensified the stir, cook food on the road and had lunch there itself. MLA Kalpana Siddarju joined them.

Ex-minister Mahadevu, who was bound for Bangalore, visited them and extended his support. He, cut short his journey and returned to Mysore.

BSR Congress

Members of BSR Congress blocked the road in Maddur town for an hour. They raised slogans against Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha.

Women arrested

Members of a Kannada organisation burnt Tamil newspapers in front of the KSRTC bus stand, while women activists staged protest with empty pots. Police arrested state vice-president Sowbhagyamma, district president V C Umashankar, women wing president Selvi, taluk president Ashok and others. Residents of Tamil Colony extended their support to the strike.

Congress

Congress members staged a protest by blocking the highway. Taluk panchayat member P Sandarsh, Girish, K S Nagesh, Prashanth, Thimmanna, Yaraganahalli Mahalingu and others participated.

Vokkaligara Sangha

Members of Vokkaligara Sangha and Vishwa Vokkaligara Janajagruthi Sangha burnt tyres on the road and staged a protest.

JD(S)

Members of Janata Dal (Secular) blocked the road. Ex-president of zilla panchayat Suresh Kanti, Chennaveere Gowda, Suresh, Nagesh and others were present.
Merchants protestTender coconut merchants and other labourers staged a protest placing logs acrosss the highway and burnt them.

Koppa

Members of Raitha Sangha took out a huge procession in Koppa.

Sollepura

More than 300 vehicles from Mysore bound for Bangalore, which had been diverted through Hanakere as the highway was blocked, was blocked by residents of Sollepura. Gram panchayat members Nanda Kumar, S C Ramu, ex-member Ramesh, K C Siddu and others were present.

Besagarahalli
Residents of Besagarahalli staged a protest by blocking the roads. District secretary of Raitha Sangha K G Umesh, B Vijayendra of JD(S), Anand and others were present. Residents of Goravanahalli also blocked the road.The bandh call given at K Honnalagere was successful.
