'Swachh Mysuru' to feature in Jamboo Savari procession

The City of Palaces Mysuru that recently added a feather in its cap by emerging numero uno among 476 cities in Swachh Bharat rankings in the country will be portrayed in a tableau during Jamboo Savari, the last leg of Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara on October 23.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner C G Betsurmath said, “It has been decided to design the tableau on the very concept to depict the initiatives taken up in
segregation of waste and the measures to be taken in future to retain the tag.”

The city emerged cleanest on two counts- effective management of solid waste and free from open defecation, during a survey conducted by the union ministry of urban development.

The tableau will be among 20 to be designed by different departments, aiming to portray the various schemes of the government.

Zilla Panchayat CEO P A Gopal told media here on Friday, “Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will highlight Smart City concept in its tableau, while Backward Classes Welfare department will focus on the birth centenary of former chief minister D Devaraja Urs. Similarly, the Forest department will work on the topic ‘Conservation methods’, Women and Child Development- childcare, Police department- Abhaya, Suraksha programmes designed for the welfare of elderly and tenants respectively in Mysuru, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) Limited on ‘energy conservation’, Agriculture department on ‘integrated farming’, social welfare department on
‘eradication of untouchability’, Health and Family Welfare Department on ‘National
Rural Health Mission and ASHA workers’ among others.”

Poets meet
Additional Commissioner at the Regional Commissioner’s office M R Ravi said, “The poets meet will be held for a period of two-days with sessions split on general topic and another topic on-Uluva yogi, Baduku Bavane.”

A dance ballet titled ‘Male, Ile, Bele’ (Rain, earth and crop) by  nine member troupe of artistes led by Suneetha Chandrakumar will be presented during the inaugural of Dasara cultural programmes at Palace on October 13.

Three local MLAs will be included in the nine sub-committees formed for Dasara, with each entrusted with the task of supervising three sub-committees.
