In a first of its sort, the Malur Town Municipal Council has taken up construction of a road which has already been asphalted. Incidently, the residents who had opposed the move initially give-in after promises from TMC member.

Strange but true. The residents of the CP Layout in Ward no 16 of the town were on Thursday shocked see workers pouring concrete over the road which was recently asphalted. The residents, however, protested against the apathy of the TMC and protested.

The town, in total has 23 wards. The roads in all most all the wards  are in bad condition due to underground drainage work. However, the road in the Layout was constructed with Rs 2 lakh grant from the State Finance Corporation. Incidently, Rs 5  lakh was  also sanctioned under the MLA Fund for the construction of the same road.

Most of the roads in the Ward 16 are in bad condition to an extent that is even difficult for pedestrians to walk on the road let alone the movement of vehicles. The TMC should give priority to other roads and asphalted them, said Ravi Kumar, a resident.

Following the tension, TMC member Gulab Jaan along with Council’s Vishwanath visited the spot. She said that the TMC had prepared cost estimate for the concrete works of all the roads in the Ward. She promised to call tenders for the construction of roads after the Assembly elections.

Strangely, the residents withdrew their opposition and allowed the asphaltation work on the road which was already tarred.
