Traffic signals to decongest roads in Chikkaballapur

Traffic signals will be installed in Ambedkar Circle and Sir M V Circle. Bharat Electronics has already conducted a survey at these two locations.

Disclosing the measures that would be taken for traffic management in the City, Superintendent of Police Ravindra Prasad said at a press meet here on Monday that new plans have been formulated to check drunken driving, violation of traffic rules and traffic congestion.

The measures would be give effect to once the bypass on the outskirts is opened for traffic. Steps will be taken to open additional traffic police stations to check accidents, he said.

The SP revealed that there had been a marked reduction in the number of crimes in the district over the past two years and hence the district has remained peaceful by and large. As many as 44 murder cases have been registered in the year 2009 and arrests have been made in 21 cases.

Valuables returned

The culprits have been traced in four out of six dacoity cases and two out of 11 extortion cases. Out of 298 theft cases, accused have been nabbed in 76. As many as 72 cases of atrocity against women have been registered and accused arrested in 52 cases. Out of a total of 1,666 crime cases, 951 have been solved. While valuables worth Rs 2.23 crore have been stolen, articles worth Rs 1.32 crore have been recovered. Valuables worth Rs 46.35 lakh have been returned to the owners.
In respect of dacoity cases, valuables worth Rs 9.26 lakh have been looted and items worth Rs 4.11 lakh have been recovered.

Valuables worth Rs 3.40 lakh have been returned to the owners. A sum of Rs 18.68 lakh has been recovered in the form of fine by registering 11,534 cases under Motor  Vehicle Act. Apart from this, a sum of Rs 20.16 lakh has been collected by imposing fine on 216 lorries and 59 tractors involved in sand transportation. CDs and DVDs worth Rs 1.33 lakh have been recovered in piracy cases, the SP detailed.

Security tightened

Tight security measures have been arranged for elections to Legislative Council from local body constituencies scheduled for Dec 18 in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. Out of a total of 163 polling booths, 32 have been identified to be highly sensitive, 72 as sensitive and 59 as ordinary booths.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector, a head constable and a constable will be posted at highly sensitive booths; a head constable and a constable for sensitive booths and two constables for ordinary booths. As many as 28 mobile police units have been formed and each will keep an eye on about six booths, he disclosed. DySP Duggappa, CPI Shivakumar were present.
