Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has suspended a private engineering college professor for allegedly leaking a question paper of the fourth semester Civil Engineering course -- ‘Basic Determent Sector Analysis’. A re-examination for the subject will be held on July 11.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Karisiddappa said that the ‘Basic Determent Sector Analysis’ subject examination had been scheduled on June 22. But the question paper of that subject was circulated on WhatsApp from June 20 onward.

Investigations revealed that none at VTU had leaked the question paper. Instead, a private college professor had done it.

As admissions for first year engineering courses are in progress, the name of the college and professor are withheld.

But the cost of the examination will be recovered from the accused professor, he stated.

The VC said that re-examination for second semester Mathematics-2 subject paper will not be held as question paper was circulated on WhatsApp after examination hours in Bengaluru and Chikkamagalur.

"That cannot be considered a question paper leak," he added.

Dr Karisiddappa stated that services of 11 contract employees of the VTU have been terminated on expiry of their contracts on June 30.

Key processes in VTU had been automated and non-performing employees would not be allowed to continue in service, the VC cautioned.

"The process of recording exam marks has been encrypted and marks card tampering allegations are far from the truth," the VC added.
