BJP leader and MP Shobha Karandlaje has charged that Congress leader and former energy minister D K Shivakumar is hell bent on getting Energy portfolio in the H D Kumaraswamy Cabinet to cover up the ‘illegalities’ that were committed during the previous Congress government.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Shobha, who held the Energy portfolio during the BJP regime, said the previous government badly managed the Energy department.

“I know how the Energy minister who held that position prior to me had functioned. A lot of illegalities occurred in the sector during the Congress government. Fearing that the new minister will bring out these illegalities, there is a tug-of-war for the portfolio between the JD(S) and the Congress,” she charged. “Even after two weeks of formation of the government, portfolios have not been allocated. The achievement of the Congress MLAs after getting elected is nothing but “resort politics and lobbying for berths in the Cabinet,” she
claimed.

The state government has failed to understand the problems faced by the people in several places, including Mangaluru and Udupi, following heavy rain in the last one week, the BJP leader said.
