Doubts over Ambareesh seeking re-election

Last Updated 16 April 2018, 19:40 IST

There are rumours across the district that Mandya MLA and former minister M H Ambareesh may not contest the Assembly elections due to health issues.

The Central Election Committee of the Congress had announced the list of candidates on Sunday, which included Ambareesh’s name for the Mandya constituency. But, even 24 hours after the announcement of his candidature, there was no response from Ambareesh to his supporters attempts to reach out to him.

A group of people from Mandya, who had gone to Bengaluru to meet Ambareesh were not successful in meeting him. Ambareesh’s attitude has raised doubts among his supporters about him contesting the elections.

Besides, Ambareesh met JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday and held discussions with him. There are speculations that Ambareesh might extendin his support to the JD(S).

‘Did not seek ticket’

According to Congress sources, Ambareesh is said to have told his close aides that he had not applied for the Congress ticket and also not informed his stand to the party high command about contesting the Assembly polls.

“Despite this, the party has announced my name. I am facing health complications and require Rs 10 crore for treatment. It is impossible for me to come to Mandya and contest the polls,” he is said to have told them.
