Govt will complete 5-year term, says HDK

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 16:05 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday reiterated that the Congress-JD(S) coalition headed by him would complete its full five-year term despite “several problems.”

He was speaking at the inaugural of a two-day Udyoga Mela (job fair) organised by the government here.

“There may be several problems. Some sections of people may feel that the government will fall in 24 hours. Amid all this, the government is working for the development of the state and providing employment to youth,” he said.

“We know how to run this government. We will run it,” he said, adding that there were several senior leaders in the coalition whose guidance would help the government last its five-year term. “Let there be no doubt on this,” he said.

Kumaraswamy’s reiteration on the government’s stability comes amid reports of factions within the alliance partners and that the BJP was trying to woo disgruntled legislators.

Kumaraswamy said the government was working out a plan to launch mobile banks to lend interest-free loans to the poor.

“Instead of private lenders fleecing the poor, the government will provide between Rs 1,000 and Rs 10,000 as interest-free loans to them,” he said.

Kumaraswamy said he had directed the police across the state to arrest managers of banks that issue notices to farmers, asking them to repay loans. The government has waived crop loans worth Rs 45,000 crore.

“We’ve written to all nationalised banks seeking details of loans that farmers have borrowed,” he said.
