Heavy rain affects normal life in Kodagu

Normal life was paralysed in Kodagu as heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed the district on Sunday. The district has received an average of 65.08 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday.

Movement of vehicles on Madikeri-Somwarpet road was affected for four hours as a huge tree fell on the road, near Madapura. The passengers travelling in a KSRTC bus had a narrow escape, thanks to the alert driver.

As soon as he saw the tree falling, he moved the bus to the edge of the road, preventing any mishap.

Three passengers in a car had a miraculous escape after a tree fell on their vehicle in Iguru village.

Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala is in full flow. A woman was injured after a huge tree collapsed on her house in Malooru village.

Six low-lying bridges continue to remain under water with the increase in the inflow in Krishna river and its tributaries Doodhaganga and Vedaganga in Chikkodi taluk in Belagavi district. The inflow into River Krishna has increased following release of water from Rajapur barrage. Incessant rains continued to lash Belagavi city and surrounding areas on Sunday. Gokak waterfalls in Belagavi district is in full splendour, drawing tourists in hordes.

The inflow into Almatti reservoir stood at one lakh cusecs on Sunday. Shikaripur, Sagar and Sorab taluks in Shivamogga district received good rain.
