'I'll be the first to say Jai Maharashtra', Hebbalkar courts controversy

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Women Wing President Laxmi Hebbalkar got embroiled in a controversy regarding the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary dispute with she allegedly making a statement that she would be the first to raise ‘Jai Maharashtra’ cry with Maharashtra flag in her hand if the Supreme Court gives its verdict for including Belagavi in Maharashtra.

Addressing a programme at Basarikatti village in Belagavi taluk coming under Belagavi Rural Assembly Constituency on August 27, Hebbalkar in her address in Hindi is heard in the audio clip stating that she would be the first to say Jai Maharashtra with Maharashtra flag in her hands if the apex court gives its verdict in favour of the neighbouring state regarding which a suit has been filed. “I fear none except god and my parents. Others do not have the daring. I am not concerned with language and caste and want development of constituency, hence speak in favour of it.” She speaking in support of boundary row led in the people cheering, whistling and applauding her in the audio clip.

In the audio clip which has gone viral in the social media on Thursday, Hebbalkar is heard speaking Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti slogan in Marathi ‘Jhalach Pahije’ (it has to happen). She said, Marathi speaking people have been meted injustice and youth were not getting employment.

Without naming Member of Parliament Suresh Angadi and MLA Sanjay Patil, she alleged that they have grabbed 400 acres of farmers lands after construction of Suvarna Vidhan Soudha.

Hebbalkar was not available for comment.
