Janata Dal (Secular) nominee Geetha Shivrajkumar on Tuesday said she was no outsider to Shimoga politics and that people of the parliamentary constituency would accept her candidature for the coming elections.

“I did my schooling in Shimoga. I know my roots and I am no outsider to the constituency. I can definitely manage my political career and represent Shimoga staying here in Bangalore,” she said.

Interacting with the media a day after becoming a member of the JD(S), Geetha said her primary aim of entering politics was to continue the legacy of her father S Bangarappa. Admitting that she was a political novice, Geetha said she would fight the election on the plank of development.

“I am not going to attack anyone. My opponent B S Yeddyurappa of the BJP is a seasoned politician and I respect him. But be it Yeddyurappa or any other candidate, they will just be my opponents in the election. I am not afraid of anyone,” she said.

Extending his full support to his wife, film actor Shivrajkumar, who accompanied Geetha, said the entire Rajkumar family was behind her. “My father had personally decided not to enter politics. But he never said other members of the family should not enter the field. Geetha’s candidature was finalised after she decided to contest the elections... My mother and our family agreed to it,” he said.

The cine star said that as an actor he would not ask anyone to vote for Geetha, but as a husband he would seek the support of the people during campaigning. “I will be campaigning for my wife and not for the JD(S). As for my brothers, it will be the individual decision of Puneet and Raghavendra whether or not to canvass for Geetha. I will not force them,” he said.
