JD(S): Kingmaker to King?

H D Kumaraswamy

As the Congress tries to woo the Janata Dal (Secular) with Chief Ministerial post, H D Kumaraswamy may emerge 'King in Karnataka'.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the party has approached JD(S) leaders Kumaraswamy and HD Dev Gowda and they have accepted the offer. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi also spoke to JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda.

Most exit polls had predicted that the party led by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda would call the shots as neither the BJP nor the Congress would be able to form the government on its own.

The surveys had predicted the party would secure more than 50 seats, but the latest trends show that the JD(S) is leading in 38 constituencies.
