The JD(S) party has got into damage control mode after statements of H D Revanna against Sumalatha Ambareesh created ripples on social media.

The party has now issued directions to workers not to make any statement hurting sentiments of women.

Minor Irrigation Minister C S Puttaraju told reporters in Mandya:“I don’t know grounds that forced Revanna to make such a statement. I seek apologies for his statement”.

“We have great respect for Ambareesh’s family. By circumstances his wife Sumalatha is contesting against our party which is fielding Nikhil Kumaraswamy as the candidate for the Mandya Lok Sabha Constituency”, he said.

Meanwhile, Public Works Minister H D Revanna claimed that he did not make any statement with sole intention of hurting sentiments of anybody.

The senior JD (S) leader, who has come under sharp criticism for his remarks on Sumalatha Ambareesh over her intention of contesting from Mandya Lok Sabha seat, expressed displeasure over the media for blowing it out of proportion.

Revanna maintained that the people did not focus much on the question posed to him by the reporter. There was a focus only on his answer.

Speaking about the Lok Sabha elections, he said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and Coalition Committee president Siddaramaiah will prepare an action plan for the victory of coalition party. The list of contestants would be finalised within three days.
