MLC A H Vishwanath made a charge against City Police Commissioner Chandragupta in connection with the death of a bike rider, who came under a truck in a bid to escape from the traffic police.

Speaking to reporters here, on Thursday, Vishwanath said, “The commissioner has given an appreciation letter to the police, who were allegedly responsible for the death of the rider near RMP Circle on Hunsur Road in Hinkal, a few days back.”

It has to be noted that a rider died on the spot, as he came under a truck, in a bid to escape from the police, who were intercepting and inspecting the vehicles. Following the incident, the public attacked the police and also damaged their vehicle.

Later, Vijayanagar police arrested 13 persons in connection with the attack and the City Police Commissioner has issued appreciation certificates to eight police personnel attached to VV Puram Traffic Police station for shifting the injured person to hospital, removing the dead body from the spot and clearing the traffic.

Vishwanath asked, “What kind of a Police Commissioner are you? How can you give away appreciation certificates to the police, who are responsible for the death of a bike rider?”

“The commissioner never went on city rounds. What are the DCPs, ACPs doing? The police have no respect for the people and people’s representatives. Has your law told you to chase bike riders? Don’t you have CCTV cameras to check the violations? The government has provided you equipment and cameras to file cases. The police are exhibiting goondaism,” he said.
