Crocs force suspension of water sports at Kukkarahalli tank

N K Hanifa, commander, Commanding Officer of the Naval Unit, in a letter to K M Jayaramaiah,  convener of the Kukkarahalli Lake Protection Committee, Department of Botany, UoM, has said the Naval unit of NCC has been carrying out water sports activities at Kukkarahalli Tank for cadets. During the training of cadets, the NCC staff and cadets have sighted crocodiles in the lake. Consequently the water sports activities (pulling and sailing) have been suspended for the saety of the cadets.

The sighting of the crocodile was reported to the State NCC headquaters Karnataka and Goa, Bangalore. The directorate wants the crocodiles in the tank to be removed and make the lake safe for water sports activities. The exact number of crocodiles and its location is not noticed by the NCC staff or cadets. However, the unit is ready to spare the services of one boat and the staff for the purpose of spotting the crocodiles. In view of this, the UoM authorities should take steps to catch and relocate the crocodiles in the interest of NCC naval cadets, he added.
