Kumble, Srinath to kick off sports

Minister happy about traditional games getting good response

While, another former cricketer and KSCA secretary Javagal Srinath would also add zeal among sportspersons carrying the Dasara sports torch. Srinath — the Mysore Express — would carry the torch from Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi hill at 8 am. The torch would reach the Chamundi Vihar stadium in the noon, the minister  stated.

Addressing reporters after a review meeting on the preparations for the Naada Habba held at deputy commissioner’s office, Ramdas said more than 800 sportspersons are expected to take part from across the state. State minister for home and transport R Ashoka would participate in the inaugural function.

Good response

An event organised to revive traditional games and sports activities ahead of dasara last week received good response. About 300 participants took part in the traditional games and they were drawn from far off places like Dharwad and Hubli too, he informed.

Earlier, Ramdas held talks with senior officials and chairmen of various Dasara sub-committees and took stock of the preparations for the nine-day festivities that begins on Wednesday.

Deadline

He asked the officials to work in tandem with the nominated committee members to make the Dasara event a great success. He directed that the works related to giving a facelift to the city and illumination should be completed on the eve of inaugural of Dasara, he said adding that he would inspect the works.

He also asked officers to extend good facilities to folk artistes arriving from rural areas. The artistes should also be provided healthcare in special health units set up for Dasara, he stated.

Deputy commissioner and special officer for Dasara P S Vastrad, zilla panchayat chief executive officer G Sathyavathi, police commissioner Sunil Agarwal, mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna, Mysore City Corporation commissioner K S Raykar, MLCs Siddaraju, N Madhusudan and others were present.
