Public block roads in South Kodagu

The roads at Kutta, Kanoor, Ponnampet, Srimangala are in pathetic condition

Roads at Kutta, Kanoor-Ponnampet and Srimangala are in pathetic condition and are causing inconvenience to the movement of vehicles. Protestors blocked the road from 6 am to 6 pm.

Kutta mathu Nalkeri Raithapi Janara Horata Samithi, Srimagala Nagarika Horata Samithi, Sthree Shakthi organisations, and several other organisations took part in the protest. The protestors said State Highway 89 in Ponnampet, Hudikeri, T Shettigeri, Srimangala, Kutta roads must be widened and underground drainage must be constructed. The bridges must be rebuilt. Ponnampet, Nalkeri, Badaga, Kutta roads must be asphalted. The movement heavy laden vehicles must be banned, they said. In spite of heavy rains, the protestors came in large number and took part in the protest. Sthree Shakthi Sangha members had put chairs in the middle of the road and blocked the movement of vehicles. School vehicles returned back due to the protest. Protestors allowed only emergency service vehicles. Some of the private schools had declared holiday. Gonikoppa-Ponnampet buses were plying. Even bus owners had extended their support to the protest.

MP Vishwanath, Deputy Commissioner Ashwathanarayana Gowda, Tahsildar Sathish Kumar visited the spot. The protestors gheroaed PWD Executive Engineer Ravikumar, Assistant Engineer Dharmaraj.

MLC M C Nanaiah assured to take measures to repair the roads. Former minister Suma Vasanth, Congress President Veena Acchaiah and others visited the spot.
