Speaking at an awareness camp on ‘Ban on plastic misuse,’ organised by District Administration in association with District Industries Centre and Udupi City Municipal Council here at Town Hall on Thursday, she said that mere implementing laws will be of no use as far as banning plastic  is concerned.

Hence, public should join hands in the social cause. There are many other substitutes for plastics such as paper bags and covers made of arecanut crust. SHGs should come forward to manufacture these items, she said.

Lauding Himachal Pradesh’s efforts in achieving success against the use of plastics, she said Himachal Pradesh is the only state in the country where plastic is banned.

“Plastic have become integral part of our lives. This attitude that we cannot live without plastics should vanish. Temples and organisations should come forward to ban plastics,” she said.

MIM Director K M Varambally delivered talk on “Ill effects of plastic use” on the occasion.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N Rajashekar, City Municipal Council President Dinaker Shetty, District Industries Centre Joint Director S G Hegde, Assistant Director Ramesh Murthy, CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.
