Last Updated 27 March 2019, 19:00 IST

Awareness programmes will be conducted on the minimum income scheme ‘Nyuntam Aay Yojana’ (NYAY) announced by AICC President Rahul Gandhi, said District Congress Committee President K K Manjunath Kumar.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday, he said Congress President Rahul Gandhi has assured of implementing the scheme if Congress comes to power. Under the programme, 20% of the people belonging to economically backward sections will be provided with Rs 6,000 per month. Around 25 crore people in the country will be benefited.

A programme to create awareness among people in this regard will be held at General Thimayya Circle in Madikeri on March 28. Congress candidate from Mysore-Kodagu constituency, C H Vijayshankar will take part.

Manjunath Kumar meanwhile alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had opposed MGNREGA and Food Security Act implemented by the UPA government.

The prime minister has diluted the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Act implemented by UPA, which guaranteed the provision of market rate to the people whose lands are acquired for government projects. Voters will teach a befitting lesson to the prime minister, he said.

Stating that the leaders of Congress from Kodagu have taken the Parliamentary elections seriously, he said preparations are being carried out for the victory of its candidate.

The state leaders will arrive for election campaigning in the district in the days to come.

State Government Coordination Committee President Siddaramaiah, KPCC Chairman Dinesh Gundu Rao, KPCC Working President Eshwar Khandre, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara, minister Zameer Ahmed and others are expected to take part.
