Former mayor Kavitha Sanil said that BJP leaders, MP, and MLAs who remember cow and offer gau puja during elections have forgotten to safeguard the cattle when the district administration demolished the gaushala that was functioning on the land identified for Coast Guard Academy, at Kenjar.

“MLAs from Dakshina Kannada, the district in-charge minister and others had offered gau puja at the same gaushala a few months ago. Where they not aware that it was illegal. The cattle from the gaushala are left in open beside the road. Where are the so-called gau rakshaks?” she asked during a press meet.

“Congress is not engaged in politicising the issue. However, we are not fake cattle devotees (gau bhakts). I offer gau puja at Kateel temple daily. Neither the MLAs nor BJP leaders have raised any voice for the cause of the cattle. The district administration should have demolished it after making alternative arrangements for the cows that were reared at the gaushala. The cows are roaming without fodder and water on the streets. If the demolition drive was taken up during the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka, imagine what would have happened to the district,” she said.

The BJP had come to power in the name of cow and Hindutva. However, all are silent when it comes to the rights of the cattle now, she added.
