Opposing the hike in fuel and LPG prices, the CPM staged a protest in Nelyahudikeri.
The CPI(M) workers set a fireplace on the road and prepared coffee. They also shouted slogans against the Central government.
The protesters rode cycles and garlanded motorbikes and LPG cylinders.
Speaking on the occasion, the party's district organising secretary Dr Durgaprasad alleged that the Central government has failed to control the prices of essential items.
"As the fuel prices have hiked, there has been an increase in the transport cost. The common people already worried by Covid-19 are now overburdened by the price hike," he said.
Party leader P R Bharat said that the Central government is acting as a puppet in the hands of corporates and is following anti-people policies. The lives of labourers have turned pathetic.
"People will teach a befitting lesson to the government in the days to come," he added.
Party leaders Monappa, T T Uday Kumar, Beeji, Chandran, Geetha, Nagesh and Shoukath were present among others.
