Kannada organisations under the aegis of Kasargod Kannada Horata Samithi staged a protest in front of the DC office on Friday against the move of Kerala government to make Malayalam mandatory in all schools in Kasargod.

They also protested against the appointment of Malayalam teachers in Kannada medium schools.

The protesters said that only teachers well versed in Malayalam have been appointed to Kannada medium government schools at Soorambailu and Mangalpady. A maths teacher, who can only converse in Malayalam, has been appointed to a Kannada medium school at Mangalpady. The school has 142 students.

The children are facing inconvenience due to the stepmotherly attitude shown by the Kerala government. The posts reserved for Kannadigas in various government departments in Kasargod are being given to Malayalis. The issue was also raised in Kasargod Zilla Panchayat meeting recently, they urged.

DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura urged the Kerala government to withdraw its order. Children should be allowed to study in Kannada medium schools in Kasargod, he said.
