'Students should develop scientific temperament'

Students should engage in scientific research by conducting a study on the recent developments in science and technology, said Madikeri Taluk BEO T N Gayathri.

She was speaking after distributing prizes to the winners of the district-level Sir C V Raman science quiz competition organised on account of National Science Day, by Rajya Vijnana Parishat, Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instruction, Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, Rajya Vijnana Parishat Kodagu district and Rotary Misty Hills at Government Junior College in Madikeri.

Students should develop a scientific temperament and engage in research activities. By conducting science-related competitions, an emphasis has been given to recognise the talent of the children, she said.

Rajya Vijnana Parishat former joint secretary T G Premkumar said that there is a need to popularise science and awareness programmes will be organised on the same.

Students should give emphasis to basic science, he said.

The winners in the district-level competition will represent Kodagu district in the ‘Thatt Antha Heli’ quiz competition to be aired on Doordarshan Chandana, in the third week of March, in Bengaluru.

Winners

Bharathiya Vidya Bhavana Kodagu Vidyalaya students Chinmaya and Sarina Shija have been selected for the state-level science quiz competition. P S Ponnamma is the guide for the team.

The second-place winners are B C Abhijnan and K P Karthik from General Thimayya Public School and Veena was the guide for the team. Ananya M H and Rolencia Biyas Roy from St Joseph Convent Composite High School won third place and Mangalageetha was the guide for the team.

The first and second prize winners received Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
