Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators and MPs have decided to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish the proposed Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for south India here on the premises of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

Modi will visit Belagavi on Saturday to address farmers about the Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana. During Modi’s visit, legislators and MPs from the region would apprise him about the infrastructure and facilities available for the establishment of PMO for south India, MP Suresh Angadi told Deccan Herald.

Earlier, the Union government had been looking at Bengaluru for the establishment of the PMO for south India, but reconsidered its decision owing to the City’s traffic problems, he said.

“The PMO for south India, if established here, could see the prime minister visiting the city one or twice annually. We have air connectivity and all the required infrastructure. Traffic is not a problem here. Modi would be apprised about the advantages of locating the PMO here. We had made a demand for the PMO here earlier and we will try to convince him during his visit,” Angadi said.

The proposed PMO in south India would cater to states of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Goa. Petitions of people from the region would be accepted. If the PMO if established on the premises of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, the importance of the second secretariat structure would increase, Angadi said.
