More arrests for Belgaum violence

Official sources said police were also on the look out for former MLA Vasantrao Patil, former mayor Sambhaji Patil and MES leader Deepak Dalvi.

Cases under Section 143, 147, 148, 153 (A), 332, 353, 307 and 506 of IPC have been booked against the leaders as well as arrested activists on Monday.

 Leaders of Pro-Kannada organisations met the deputy commissioner and demanded the arrest of MES activists and leaders under the Goonda Act and also sought to extern them from Belgaum. Movement of buses between Karnataka and Maharashtra continued to remain suspended, as a precautionary measure. Plying of Karnataka buses were terminated at Nipani and Maharashtra buses on the border of Maharashtra near Kagal.

Situation in Belgaum city, which was a bit tense on Monday afternoon returned to normalcy in the evening.

Violent incidents were witnessed in and around the DC’s office and Chennamma Circle on Monday during MES rally, protesting against the Centre's affidavit in the Supreme Court over the border row.
