Mysore Dasara festivities set to cross historic milestone

The festivities would take place from October 8 to 17, Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas, also district in-charge minister, and Head of the Dasara celebration committee, told reporters here today.

This year, Dasara celebrations are also significant because it marks the 125th birth anniversary of Mysore king Nalawadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar and 100th year for the Mysore Palace.

Dharmadikari Veerendra Heggade of the Dharmasthala would inaugurate the festival in the presence of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on October 8.
In view of the Dasara festivities, the Mysore administration has rescheduled Dasara holidays for schoolchildren in the district. They would get holidays from October 15 to November two in the district.

Ramdas said Dasara holidays have been rescheduled to enable students participate in 'School Dasara' programmes from October five to 14.
Various competitions at the block, taluk and district levels would be organised for schoolchildren to educate them about the historical significance of the 400 year-old Mysore Dasara festivities, he said.
