Nirmala backstabbing Karnataka: NSUI

Last Updated 14 August 2018, 11:53 IST

Opposing the proposal to relocate Aero India, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Monday organised a signature campaign in various colleges of the city, urging Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman to drop the plan.

NSUI has collected nearly 7,000 signatures from various colleges. The campaign was held in Mount Carmel College, Maharani’s College, Government Arts and Science Colleges and others.

“If this happens, it will be like backstabbing by Nirmala Seetharaman. She was elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, she should be grateful to our state. Just to gain political mileage out of this show, they plan to shift the show to Lucknow,” Manjunath Gowda, state president, NSUI, told DH.

The signatures will be sent to the defence minister. “We will not give up till the air show is retained in Bengaluru. For the past 22 years, it is happening here without any issue,” he said.

“We request the central government to drop this proposal and make sure Aero India happens in Bengaluru,” said Sushmitha, degree student in Mount Carmel College.
