Rain continues to pound parts of Old Mysuru

Rain continued to pound various parts of Old Mysuru on Friday night and Saturday evening. A woman drowned in an overflowing stream, several houses collapsed and a few people, including children, sustained injuries.

Lakshmi (40) of Yettaganahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district drowned in a stream when she was returning home from the farm. Fire and Safety Services personnel, who reached the spot, are searching for the body.

A check dam collapsed in Hedatale village in Nanjangud taluk. Rainwater gushed into more than 60 houses and at least 10 houses have collapsed. Mysuru city also received good rain.

Rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder, lashed parts of Chamarajanagar district for more than two hours. Major roads in the town were blocked due to blockage of drains. Motorists had a tough time in the town. While Chamarajanagar received 25.2 mm of rain, Mangala and Kuderu received 53 and 35 mm respectively. Ummattur, Suvarnavati, Haradanahalli, Udigala and Kagalavadi received 60, 47, 52.2, 34.4 and 42.8 mm rain, respectively.

In Gundlupet town, rainwater gushed into more than 30 houses. Similarly, houses were damaged in Jallipalya hamlet in Hanur taluk.

Parts of Hassan district received good rainfall. A three-year-old girl, Sanjana, sustained injures as the roof of a house at Kongalabidu village in Holenarasipur taluk, collapsed on Saturday. A large quantity of fertilisers and seeds were damaged at Shravanabelagola Raita Samparka Kendra as rainwater entered the centre.
An engineer attached to the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited, Chandrakumar, sustained injuries after a bridge under construction collapsed at Katteri village in Pandavapura taluk.
