Shimoga DCC bank president disqualified

The Co-operation Department has disqualified the president of the Shimoga District Central Co-operative (DCC) Bank R M Manjunath Gowda.

Registrar of the Co-operative Department N S Channappa Gowda on Tuesday said that an order to this effect was issued on Monday. “As per the law, we can disqualify the president of a DCC bank if he or she is under criminal investigation.

In this case, the court has taken cognizance of the charges framed by the CID against Manjunath Gowda.
We have hence issued the order to disqualify him,” Channappa Gowda said.

The registrar said that Manjunath Gowda would also be disqualified as the Apex Bank president as he has lost his primary membership from the Shimoga DCC. “This order will be issued later during the course of the week,” he added.

Manjunath Gowda had unsuccessfully contested for Thirthahalli Assembly seat in 2013 as KJP candidate. He was a close associate of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

At present the Shimoga DCC has been placed under the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district, who will also act as the administrator of the bank. It is said that the DC would continue in this capacity till the irregularities in the bank are set right.
