Shimsha electric project to be upgraded: DKS

Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar said that the Shimsha Hydro-Electric Power project here will be upgraded to generate more power.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the project on Friday, Shivakumar said that Shimsha unit needs to be upgraded as it would be submerged in the backwaters of Mekedattu project. The Shimsha project generates 17 MW of electricity. The old machines will be replaced to generate more power, he added.

“Due to the Mekedatu project, a few villages and agriculture fields will be submerged. I have conducted spot inspection for Mekedatu project. It costs Rs 5,912 crore and the water will be utilised in a proper manner,” the minister said.

MP D K Suresh, Transport Minister D C Thammanna, MLA K Annadani, Narendra, Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah and Anil Chikkamadu were present.
