Dams continue to get good inflow

After the downpour on Thursday, there has been some respite from showers in Malnad and coast on Friday.

However, the reservoirs, including Almatti and KRS, in the state have continued to receive good inflow.

Almatti dam received 2.6 tmcft of water on Friday following copious rain in its catchment in the last two days. With River Krishna in spate, Mahishwadi bridge near Rabakavi-Banahatti, in Bagalkot taluk, has been submerged, cutting off many villages in Athani from town.

Rain receded in Uttara Kannada district on Friday after it poured in the last two days.

Many streams and rivulets are flowing in full steam. Hosakumbi Togase Halla, which drains into Gangavali river, has wreaked havoc in several villages of Ankola taluk.

The Manaduru-Naigare stretch in Salkani Gram Panchayat, Sirsi taluk, is inundated following heavy showers in the last two days. The flooded stretch is posing a grave danger to the schoolchildren, teachers and the daily wagers.

A PG student died after a damp compound wall of a temple collapsed on her at Ulluru village in Byndoor, Udupi district, on Friday. The incident occurred when Dhanya K (21), who was pursuing her MSc in Statistics at Mangalore University, was returning home after visiting the temple.

Showers relented in Kodagu district after the downpour on Thursday. Howver overcast conditions prevailed over several parts of the district.

In the last 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Friday), the district received an average of 20.67 mm rainfall. The district has received 1,332.91 mm rainfall from January till date. It was 677.36 mm during the corresponding period, last year.

With copious rain in Kodagu district, the inflow to the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam has increased. The water level has increased by 1.16-ft, in the last 24 hours, to 106.88 feet.

The inflow has increased to 15,866 cusec on Friday. Hosanagara taluk in Shivamogga district has received good spell of rains. Shivamogga and parts of the district experienced drizzling.

The repair work of Agumbe Ghat road at the 7th cross and retaining wall that were damaged recently in the rain, is in progress. The movement of light motor vehicles has resumed.
