This Dasara, take a tour of Mysuru palaces

As Dasara nears, the Tourism department, in association with Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), is relaunching ‘Palace on Wheels,’ a tour of the palaces in and around Mysuru.

‘Palace on Wheels’, a special and exclusive bus tour that takes people to all famous palaces in and around Mysuru, is likely to be launched on October 10. According to officials, the tour will be launched immediately after a final decision is taken about the cost of the package.

Deputy Director for Tourism H Janardhan said the programme was certain, but the final date would be announced after holding discussions with the authorities concerned, including district incharge Minister G T Devegowda.

According to sources, the initiative is planned to attract visitors to the city and also promote the palaces, art, heritage and culture of the city.

The city gets a large number of tourists, but a majority of them are unaware that Mysuru is home to many palaces. As per the plan, the day-long tour will commence and conclude at the Mysuru Palace. It will start in the morning and end in the evening.

A royal lunch will be served to the tourists at Lalith Mahal Palace.

The charges for the package tour is yet to be finalised, but it will be below Rs 1,000, including food, entry charges to palaces and bus fare, officials said.

Volvo buses will ferry the tourists to nine palaces in and around the city. The list of the palaces is yet to be finalised.

The authorities will provide all details about the palaces on their visit. According to Janardhan, buses will be arranged based on the people’s response. A maximum of two buses will be allotted for the tour, he said.
