Nirmala visits families of missing Udupi fishermen

Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman visited the houses of two among the seven fishermen who went missing onboard fishing boat Suvarna Tribhuja since December 15, 2018.

She met the families of Chandrashekar Kotian and Damodar Salian at Panajeegudde in Badanidiyur near Malpe. She consoled Shyamala, wife of Chandrashekar Kotian, and his aged mother. Sitharaman also visited the parents of Damodar Salian. His ailing father Suvarna Tingalaya appealed to the minister to ensure have that they at least one glance of their son.

Sitharaman said the government has taken sufficient measures to search the missing boat. The Maharashtra government and the Indian Navy are continuing the search operation. The families spoke in Tulu, which was translated by BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.
