Two killed, five injured as KSRTC bus turns turtle

Two persons, including a KSRTC staff, were killed when the Udupi-bound KSRTC bus toppled on National Highway 4 near Badekolladamutt near Hirebagewadi in the district on Saturday morning.

KSRTC employee Ashok Basappa Dundi (40) a native of Nichchanaki in Kittur taluk, and an unidentified elderly man died in the accident. Dundi was returning home after finishing his day's work. A total of 18 persons, including the crew, were travelling in Belagavi-Udupi route bus.

Five passengers have suffered injuries in the incident. The injured have been shifted to Belagavi District Hospital.

Following the accident, the traffic on the busy NH 4 was affected for more than an hour. Vehicular movement resumed after the police cleared the bus using earthmovers.
