In a major development, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) on Friday relaxed the carry-over system for engineering students to get admission for the final year. As per the latest notification, the engineering students will now be allowed to carry over four subjects from second year and still get the admission for final year.

As per the old system, the students were eligible for admission to final year only if they clear all the subjects in first and second year. The latest development has now turned out to be a boon for nearly 5,000 students of VTU and their affiliated colleges. “Some 7,000 students had requested a supplementary or carry-over system or extension of one-time exit scheme facility. Considering their plea, we have relaxed the norms in carry-over system for the student to get admission for final year. Nearly 5,000 students will be benefited by this move,” Jaganath Reddy, Registrar, VTU told DH.

“The poor strength for final-year would have tarnished the image of VTU and its affiliated colleges. So the senior officials decided to relax the norm in the meeting held on Friday. The syllabus is also tough for the students, which made the students to keep many backlogs” said a senior official in VTU.

The registrar said that the syllabus was not tough but had high standard compared to other autonomous, private and deemed universities. They all have more relaxation compared to VTU. So, we took this decision to relax the norms for the benefit of thousands of students.” The new system will come into effect from the current academic year in VTU and its affiliated colleges.
