Qualcomm announces Dragonwing series silicon for enterprises, cellular infrastructure

American semiconductor major Qualcomm has launched a new product Dragonwing that will power devices for enterprises and telecom firms to improve their cellular infrastructure.

While its Snapdragon silicon will be seen in smartphones, smartwatches, automobiles, augmented reality gears, and gaming gadgets, the Dragonwing will drive devices such as Embedded IoT (Internet of Things), networking, and cellular infrastructure.

It can be incorporated into custom hardware, and integrated with software to deliver optimum performance, on-device Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing, low-power computing and stable connectivity between devices.

"With Dragonwing products, companies can unlock smarter decision-making, increased operational efficiency and faster time-to-market. This is crucial for industries like energy and utilities, retail, supply chain, manufacturing and telecom, enabling businesses to expand into new opportunities, extend their competitive edge and win in evolving markets.," said Qualcomm.

Some products such as Dragonwing FWA Gen 2 silicon can be used in cellular network towers or fixed wireless routers to deliver faster internet connectivity to smartphones in remote regions.

Qualcomm's Dragonwing silicon can also be used for drones, security cameras, machines used in retail stores, and more.

In a related development, Qualcomm launched a new Snapdragon X chipset for computers in India.

The latest Snapdragon X series chipset is specifically designed for budget computers to run generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) features smoothly. It is considerably less expensive than the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus, which power top-end Copilot AI PCs offered by Asus, Lenovo, Microsoft, Acer, HP, Dell and more.

The Snapdragon X chipset can support 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI performance. It utilises the Qualcomm Oryon CPU cores to deliver up to 163 per cent faster performance than most of its rival chipsets which also require 168 per cent more power.
