WhatsApp finally brings option to add music to status updates

With custom music option, photos and videos on status updates on WhatsApp have become lively and engaging.

After months of testing, WhatsApp has finally introduced the much-awaited option to add music to status updates.

Previously, updating status on WhatsApp was bland compared to Instagram. With the custom music option, photos and videos on status updates have become lively and engaging.

More importantly, they convey the person's mood better than ever before. This personalisation option was exclusive to Instagram, but now WhatsApp Messenger app users will get it too.

Here's how to add music to an image or video to WhatsApp Status:

Step 1: Tap Updates > Select a photo or video.

Alternatively, tap the camera to capture a new photo or take a video.

Step 2: Tap the music note icon to open the music browser.

Step 3: Tap the search bar to search for music or scroll down to browse popular songs.

Note: Users can search by song, artist, and keyword.

Step 4: Tap to preview the song or to add to status.

Step 5: Use the progress bar to select a section of the song to add to the status.

Step 6: Tap Done > press on-screen arrow button

WhatsApp has kicked off the new year 2025 with new features.

For now, the music option is available for images and videos on iPhones, Android mobiles and the Web version for desktops. Users get up to 15 seconds of music to add for photos and 60 seconds for videos.

However, this feature is not available for text, GIF, or voice status updates.

Also, the Music option for status update is being rolled out through WhatsApp app updates in phases. It is available in India and will take some time to reach all corners of the world.

"Music on Status is not yet available in some countries, including Brazil. We’re working hard to make sure it’s available to everyone as soon as possible," says WhatsApp FAQ page.
